Fabric Print FAQs

Frequently asked questions:
how should I send my artwork to you?
Artwork should be supplied on either a cd or a DVD and saved as tiff format in 300dpi (inch). Please ensure that your files are actual size and flattened before saving. We can scan from your original image up to an a4 size if necessary.
Why use the tiff format? (Tiff = “tagged image file format”.)
They are most closely compatible with printer to match colour to your images. Tiff files can be very large and may even have enough memory for us to print up to 1 metre of images. If you wish to print onto 2 metres or more, though, you may need to send us two, or more, cds - depending on the nature and size of your images.
How should I layout and store my design/s ready to send to you?
Create new files in adobe Photoshop, sized at 140cm x 100cm for each metre of fabric to be printed. This way you will be able to both decide and take control of how you want your design/s to be laid out on each fabric metre. What you see on your screen will be what is printed onto the fabric of your choice.
Can I send you an image which is not my own?
Yes. But if this is the case, then it is your responsibility to ensure that you have been granted all rights to use the image/s in question; and/or that you have obtained all relevant permission. One other option would be to convert images into artistic styles such as pop art etc.
how should I send my files and images, to you?
(1) We recommend that you save your file(s) onto a cd for posting to us at sunny chana digital prints, unit 15, 272 montgomery street, birmingham, b11 1ds. Your cd will later be returned to you together with your goods. Or…
(2) Alternatively you may prefer to upload your files at www.rapidshare.com (max 200mb). To do this, though, you may need to reduce from 300 to 150 dpi to reduce the memory of file. Upon receipt of your images, we will re-adjust the resolution back to 300dpi and do our very best to still print out images of the very highest quality. But, it must be noted that the reduction and increasing of the resolution may, at times, affect the quality of the printing. However, this remains a great option to avoid the cost of sending us your cd’s.
Will the colours match what I see on my computer screen?
We aim to match colours as closely as possible but due to variables in the
process an exact match is not always achievable, especially in the case of continuous tone imagery where specific colours cannot be isolated, eg, photographic imagery or watercolour effects. However, for a small fee we can, on request, print-out a sample of your image/s onto the fabric of your choice, to test your image- and colour- quality
Are your printing is environment friendly?
The digital printing process is comparatively environmentally friendly. The printer is low energy and print the correct amount of reactive inks required for the designs. The process also elimates the need for flushing the chemical used in traditional screen printing, as well as using less materials in printing hardware.
What are your sizes of fabric?
The maximum printing width is 140cm depending on fabrics but there is no height restriction.

Should I allow for shrinkage ?
As all fabric is steamed and washed there may be a degree of shrinkage, usually about 5-10%.
Can I supply my own fabrics?
The fabric needs to be pre-coated for digital printing. We have a range of coated fabrics in stock and we will supply more fabrics in Summer 2009.
Does the fabric have to be washed off?
Our cloth is steamed to fix the dye and then washed which removes any excess and gives the cloth back its inherent qualities. It can be possible to steam but not wash the fabric. This may be preferable if you wish to keep the fabric very flat and is perfectly adequate as long as it is handled with care, remains dry and does not undergo long-term use.
How should I wash my digitally printed fabric?
We recommend that all digitally printed fabrics are dry-cleaned. Therefore you can wash fabrics, for cotton uses 40 temperature degrees and 30 temperature degrees for silk. They should not extend more than 5 washes due to shrinking the fabrics.
